ABOUT OUR PARISH COMMUNITY We are a Church community that is part of the Polish National Catholic Church of America (also known as the National Catholic Church). As a Parish we were organized after the original Roman Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was closed and merged with another rural parish as part of the restructuring of the parish churches in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo. In the fall of 2008, members of the original parish community began exploring ways to keep their worship site open, having been a fully functioning Catholic parish since 1906. During this time of searching, various denominations were contacted but none seemed suitable. Prayerfully, this small group looked to their Catholic heritage and believing in the power of prayer turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary for her intercession. This abandonment in faith found its fruit in the organizers being directed to contact the Rt. Rev. Thaddeus Peplowski, Bishop Ordinary of the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Diocese of the Polish National Catholic Church (PNCC). In their first contact they found themselves traveling to the Diocesan Cathedral of Holy Mother of the Rosary in Lancaster, New York. It seemed like a miracle that putting their faith in the intercessory power of the Virgin Mary, led them to the Cathedral Church under her own Patronage. After speaking with Bishop Peplowski an informational meeting was held in January 2009 in the Town of Brant's Community Center. Bishop Peplowski along with the Very Rev. Francis M. Kadryna, Vicar General of the Diocese, and Fr. Gary Spencer, Pastor of Holy Trinity PNCC in Woodlawn addressed a crowd of 75 interested people answering questions and clarifying information about the National Catholic Church, its relationship to the Roman Catholic Church and the process of organizing a parish in the PNCC. A few months later a subsequent organizational meeting was held in the future worship site of the parish. During that meeting a Parish Committee was elected by the representative community and a formal petition to organize as a parish of the National Catholic Church was developed and presented to Bishop Peplowski. After being accepted by the Bishop, the parish was officially incorporated as Parish of Our Lady under the laws of the State of New York. At that time the Bishop appointed the Very Rev. Francis M. Kadryna as the first Pastor of the newly organized parish. Bishop Peplowski immediately began negotiations with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo on behalf of the new parish to purchase the property and buildings once known as Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church in Brant, NY. A purchase price was agreed upon and on December 18, 2009 the sale was made final and the Parish of Our Lady once again took possession of its property and buildings at 10708 Brant-Angola Road, Brant, New York. The members of the parish immediately began preparations for the first celebration of Holy Mass by the Very Rev. Francis M. Kadryna, which took place only days later on Christmas Eve December 24, 2009 with approximately 85 people. This was a time of great joy with the celebration of the re-birth of the parish and the commemoration of the Nativity of our Lord. Since that time, Parish of Our Lady has continued to be blessed as it expands it ministry and outreach to the surrounding community. The celebration of Holy Mass, the various sacraments, Bible Study, and Food Pantry witness to the commitment and faith of the members of the parish.
